May Lunch: Flying High with TAA

Tucson International Airport and its cross-town partner, Ryan Airfield, may sometimes seem like laid back places, especially when compared to their larger counterparts up north, but there’s plenty happening on the development front. Please join us for lunch with George Bootes from Tucson Airport Authority’s Economic Development Office to hear the latest news about projects at both airports.

George W. Bootes III serves as the Chief Economic Development Officer for the Tucson Airport Authority. In this role, he directs TAA’s land planning and development efforts at Tucson International Airport and general aviation reliever airport, Ryan Airfield. He also manages TAA’s efforts to attract jobs and capital investment to TUS and RYN and their environs. He advocates for the interests of TAA before local, regional and statewide groups, government entities, and the private sector to promote, protect, and maximize the value of TAA’s real estate holdings.

George’s background includes more than 25 years of business, community, and economic development experience. His public sector experience includes progressively responsible positions at the local, regional, and statewide levels. In the private sector, he has served as a director of economic development, manager of market development, and assistant general manager of an electric utility (with each promotion maintaining direct responsibility for community and economic development functions).

George earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The College at Brockport. His specialized economic development training includes completing the Basic Economic Development Course at the University of Arizona and the Economic Development Institute (I, II, III) at the University of Oklahoma. He has been a Certified Economic Developer since 1993 and a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional since 1997. He plans to sit for the AICP examination within the next twelve months.

George has successfully used Tax Increment Development Districts, Public Improvement Districts, Industrial Development Bond financing, targeted economic development legislative acts, and job training incentive programs to incentivize community and economic development projects.

He is an active member of the International Economic Development Council, Arizona Association of Economic Development, and the American Planning Association, including serving on the Board of the Arizona Chapter.

George is married to RaMona I. Bootes, Esq.; they have one daughter (Amy) and two grandchildren (Michael and Jayden).
